We have some very interesting news to share with you, We are always listening to our customers and put their demands at the front, as we were receiving quite a lot of requests, We decided to make the Kernel Source Code for Find X- ( Oreo 8.1) [SDM845_8.1] Open for developers to play and tinker with on the GitHub. Before we get there let's know more about what this means.
When was Find X Released? The OPPO Find X was the first ever smartphone with a slider mechanism, giving it a truly bezel-less design in a time when most device makers were opting for notches. The Find X was one of the most unique smartphones of 2018, but sadly,
What is a Kernel?
The kernel is the lower level software that interfaces between hardware components and the Operating system. It helps in synchronized coordination between the Hardware and the OS. there are different types of kernels Micro, Monolithic & Hybrid.
as Linux is based on Monolithic kernel Android uses the same in its architecture. A small Diagram will help you understand what is kernel's Management domain in accordance with the OS. [source - Android Developer Platform]
Kernel plays the most important role in building the OS. it is like the heart of a Device which pumps the blood through the OS and keeps it alive.
What does this mean to me?
As Google releases Android Source code every year and constantly keeps it updated with patches and improvements which is used by Voluntary developers. When an OEM releases the Kernel Source Code to the Developer community it means the developers could build Custom variants of Android (aka AOSP ROM [Android Open Source Project] ) and test them on the said devices. This actually means that you could technically build and iterate different Versions of Android. Provided the same has to be available.
Who should really get excited about this?
If you are a developer working on the Find X, you might be able to start taking advantage of this.
We Always Believe in listening to our Consumers and providing them the Best User Experience with our Devices.
