Hello ColorOS SuperFans,
INTRODUCTION
During the current rainy season there are heavy rains at many places in India. As mobile phones are always with us, there is a high chance that due to rain there may be water damage. In this article I will be showing the scientific first aid guide on how to save the phone from water damage.
PREVENTION
Always remember: "prevention is better than cure". So the best way to avoid water damage is keep the phone in zip lock bag when going outside during rains. Or you can keep it in your waterproof bag.
Oppo phones are not officially rated IP68 water resistance. So this method of prevention is very important. Care must be taken while using mobile near water. For example, swimming pool, lake, river or during monsoon.
BUT WHAT IF SUDDENLY YOUR PHONE DROPS INTO WATER ACCIDENTALLY?
STEP #1: REMOVE YOUR PHONE FROM THE WATER IMMEDIATELY
The longer your phone stays submerged in water, the more chance it has of circuit damage. Quick reflex makes the difference between a working phone and a dead one.
STEP #2: POWER OFF AT ONCE
Promptly pick the phone out of water, switch it off. If the phone is already switched off, do not try to switch it on or force reboot.
STEP #3: REMOVE THE CASE
Because if the phone is inside the case, it may be holding in water. So removing the case will allow the water to drain & the phone to breathe. Remove the SIM card and memory card.
STEP #4: DRY THE OUTSIDE OF THE PHONE
Gently dry the outside of the phone with highly absorbent tissue paper. Make sure to get the water out of the charging port, the buttons and the headphone jack. Remember: Do not shake hard to try to shake off the water. Because it may cause the water infiltrate deeper into the phone and spread inside.
STEP #5: PLACE IN A VENTILATED PLACE
Place the phone in a dry and well ventilated place to avoid damage due to moisture.
Note: In this step, many guides will suggest using hair dryer or rice bag to remove moisture from the inside of the phone. Do not use a a hair dryer to dry the phone. Because the water might be blown inside or cause other phone damage due to high temperature. Many articles will say that placing your phone in a bag of rice will help to remove the water out. This has been proven false. Simply letting the phone dry is the most effective way to fix it.
STEP #6: WAIT AT LEAST 48 HOURS
The longer you can wait, the more successful your drying process will be. Wait for 48 to 72 hours at least.
After 48-72 hours, if your phone works then congratulations, you have succeeded! Check for any problems for a few days as some problems may still occur. Regularly check the display, microphone, earphone, charging and all the buttons.
STEP #7: GO TO SERVICE CENTRE
After following the above steps, if the phone dowsn't work, than it is recommended to visit the official service centre and let the certified people help you.
TIPS FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
• Do not use the phone with wet hands. • Make sure the USB port is dry when connecting for charging. • Do not use the phone in hot or humid condition like sauna or bathroom. • Do not carry your phone with you when swimming or water park or surfing. • Even if your phone is water resistant, this shouldn’t be confused with being waterproof. So do not purposely place your phone into water for underwater photography or video shooting.
CONCLUSION
• Remember to backup your phone data regularly. So that if your phone stops working a few days or need to be sent to service centre for repair, the data can be installed on temporary phone. • If it is rain water then you maybe lucky. But if your phone is submerged in seawater / coffee / milk / juice / soft drinks, there will be more damage to the circuit board and electronics.
