Hello ColorOS SuperFans,

INTRODUCTION

Light painting photography is a type of photography to paint and a scene while the shutter of a camera is left open during a long exposure photograph. In which the source of light is is moving with long exposure creates a painting effect by light. it is most commonly done with vehicle lights at night or handheld light source.

But I have decided to do something unconventional for my light painting photography. instead of keeping camera steady and source of light moving, I did the reverse. In my photography, the source of light is distant building lights or colourful light decoration which is static and I moved the camera randomly to create a different type of light painting effect.

SETTINGS

These are the settings I have used in all the photographs below.
Go to "expert mode" in Camera application.
Set the ISO and exposure to the lowest setting, focus to the infinity and shutter speed of about 1 second.

TIPS AND TRICKS

• Light painting is best captured at night.
• Move your mobile neither too fast nor too slow.
• Try to create a shape while moving mobile. Like heart shape here.

• This effect is best achieved on the roads with no street lights. Because the light from the street lamp will create too much bright photo.

The light source is shop sign boards.

I like the sea waves like design that resulted here.

CONCLUSION

The camera sensor is not like our eyes. It captures light constantly on the sensor till the aperture is open. So by opening aperture for long time like one second or more, we can create interesting effects by moving either the camera or the source of light. This helps create some surreal photography.
